A gujarati sweet made in form of stuffed roti akin to Maharashtrian recipe Puranpoli.
Ingredients
2 cups toor dal
10 tbsp wheat flour
1 tbsp oil
5-6 tbsp sugar
1 tsp poppy seeds
2 tsp cardamom (elchi)
water as required
ghee to apply
Soak dal for one hour, cook till soft and drain excess water.
Heat the tawa, pour cooked dal in it and add sugar. Let it on medium flame till it comes to boil and water disappears to give thick consistency.
Now put elchi (cardamom) powder and poppy seeds in it and keep it aside to cool.
Meanwhile, prepare a smooth dough out of wheat flour, oil and water. Kindle very well. Keep the dough aside for 15-20 minutes. Divide the dough into 8 portions and form balls.
Take one dough ball and roll and form a small round (chapati) out of it. Put 2 tbsp of the stuffing in the center of the round and then cover the stuffing by gathering sides at the center and stick together. Now again roll out a round.
Put the round on a tava (pan). Cook both the sides simultaneously.
When both sides turn light brown take it away from the tava and apply some ghee on it.
Similarly prepare the vedhmis from remaining balls.
